October 2005 Community Crusade - TransFair USA
This October, KUSF's Community Crusade celebrates Fair Trade Month by highlighting the work of TransFair USA. TransFair USA's mission is to
build a more equitable and sustainable model of international trade
that benefits producers, consumers, industry and the earth.
Fair Trade is an innovative, market-based approach to sustainable
development. Fair Trade helps family farmers in developing countries
to gain direct access to international markets, as well as to develop
the business capacity necessary to compete in the global marketplace.
This leads to higher family living standards, thriving communities and
more sustainable farming practices.
The Fair Trade Certified label guarantees that farmers and workers
received a fair price for their product. The Fair Trade price means
that farmers can feed their families and that their children can go to
school instead of working in the fields.
For further information on Fair Trade products or how to volunteer
your time to TransFair USA, call 510-663-5260, or visit

October 2005 Community Crusade - Oxfam America
In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, KUSF's Community Crusade for
October spotlights the work of Oxfam America. Oxfam America is
committed to creating lasting solutions to global poverty, hunger, and
social injustice.
Oxfam America is an international development and relief agency.
Oxfam delivers development programs and emergency relief services, and
campaigns for change in global practices and policies that keep people
in poverty.
Across communities in southern Louisiana and Mississippi, where
poverty rates soar above the national average, many of the most
marginalized people have neither resources to fall back on nor much
hope that government assistance will reach them any time soon. Oxfam
is providing a direct response and helping communities with their
long-term recovery.
Your generous support fuels Oxfam America's work in poor communities,
both through your donations and your volunteer commitments. For
further information regarding Oxfam America and how you can help, call
1-800-77-OXFAM, or visit www.oxfamamerica.org.
Oxfam America is a Boston-based international development and relief
agency and an affiliate of Oxfam International. Working with local
partners, Oxfam delivers development programs and emergency relief
services, and campaigns for change in global practices and policies
that keep people in poverty.
