November 2004 Community Crusade - Mickaboo Cockateil Rescue

This November, KUSF's Community Crusade celebrates the work of Mickaboo Cockateil Rescue.

Mickaboo Cockatiel Rescue is a small-bird rescue organization serving the entire Bay Area. Their volunteers are dedicated to rescuing parrot-type birds that have been neglected, abused, sick, or injured. They rehabilitate the birds and place them in safe, caring homes with conscientious volunteers who care for displaced rescue birds until a permanent home can be found. They also educate the bird owning public on the most current diet, health and care information.

On December 4th, Mickaboo Cockateil Rescue will host a special Adoption Fair for Bay Area bird lovers. It will be a great chance to meet some of the birds that are looking for homes and talk to volunteers about Mickaboo and the rescue work they do.

You too can contribute to the important work of Mickaboo Cockateil Rescue by becoming a foster parent, a permanent adoptive parent, or simply by donating to the cause. For more information about Mickaboo Cockateil Rescue, or for directions to the bird Adoption Fair, visit www.mickaboo.com or send an email to mail@mickaboo.org.

November 2004 Community Crusade - Pets Unlimited

This November, KUSF's Community Crusade gets warm and fuzzy with the good people of Pets Unlimited. Pets Unlimited was founded in 1947 by a group of citizens concerned about the welfare of San Francisco's stray animals. From a temporary shelter, they began rescuing dogs from the city pound and finding homes for them. Over the years, the organization grew and founded a veterinary hospital/shelter to serve the community's pets as well as their own shelter animals.

Since that time, the hospital has expanded to a 24-hour emergency facility to meet the growing needs of the community. From their current Fillmore Street location, Pets Unlimited now offers complete medical care, extended shelter services, a foster family program, volunteer opportunities and community educational services, both on and off-site.

Pets Unlimited relies on the support of people in the community, and it is these generous people who have made a difference in the lives of so many neglected, abandoned or abused animals. You too can help make a difference at Pets Unlimited by making a monetary or in-kind donation, by becoming a member, or by donating your time as a volunteer. For further information on how you can get involved, call (415) 563-6700 or visit the organization online at www.petsunlimited.org.
