May 2005 Community Crusade - THE GARDEN PROJECT

KUSF's May Community Crusade focuses on the Garden Project.

The Garden Project's mission is to provide support to former prisoners through on the job training in gardening and tree care. It's a post-prison-release program that gives former offenders the structure they need to remain out of trouble, earn a paycheck and make a difference in their community.

Every day, Garden Project participants harvest hundreds of pounds of organic produce that gets delivered to seniors and homeless shelters around San Francisco. They have also helped to improve the urban environment for us all by planting more than 10,000 street trees.

For more information about the Garden Project and how you can help, call (415) 243-8558 or check out www.gardenproject.org.

May 2005 Community Crusade - Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy

This May KUSF's Community Crusade shines the spring spotlight on the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy.

The Golden Gate National Parks stretch 70 gorgeous miles both north and south of the Golden Gate Bridge. The parks include ancient redwoods, rocky shorelines, endangered species habitat, and an array of historic landmarks.

The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation and maintenance of these vast parklands. They rely heavily on volunteers and there are many ways that you can contribute your time and talents. Volunteers can drop in at weekly work events or get involved in long-term projects.

For more information or for a calendar of upcoming Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy events, call (415) 561-3000 or visit www.parksconservancy.org.
