KUSF Community Crusade
THE KUSF COMMUNITY CRUSADE offers community organizations support through daily, on-air public service announcements (PSAs).
March 2003
:
- Cartoon Art Museum
- Yerba Buena Center for the Arts
This March, KUSF's Community Crusade highlights the Cartoon Art Museum. The Cartoon Art Museum is the only museum in the nation dedicated entirely to the preservation and exhibition of cartoon art in its many forms.
In addition to ongoing exhibitions, the museum has a cartoon art classroom, a bookstore, and a permanent collection with 6,000 original pieces. This month, the Cartoon Art Museum exhibits "She Draws Comics", the largest collection of comic art by women around the world, as well as "Comic Strip Controversies," a look at comic strips that push the envelope on social and political issues. The Museum also features the creepy work of Edward Gorey, and the Small Press Spotlight, which focuses on alternative and small-press comics in the Bay Area. You can visit the Cartoon Art Museum at 655 Mission Street or online at
www.cartoonart.org. Call 415-227-8666 for Museum hours and other details.
This March, KUSF's Community Crusade spotlights the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts is a state-of-the-art visual, film, and performance complex located in Yerba Buena Gardens. They make a special effort to focus on adventurous art, exhibiting a brand new set of work every three months by an array of off-beat artists. This month, the Yerba Buena Center presents the work of emerging artists from Sweden in a multi-media series that focuses on gender, pop culture, and the Swedish preoccupation with natural light and mythology.
The Center is also showing the masterful small-scale sculptures of Charles Ledray. With tiny hand-sewn clothing and pieces of miniature porcelain pottery, LedrayÕs work explores the richness of the physical world.
Please visit the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts downtown at 701 Mission Street or online at
