July 2005 Community Crusade - The ReUse People
This July, KUSF's Community Crusade salutes the good work of The
ReUse People. The ReUse People is a Bay Area non-profit dedicated to
keeping usable building materials out of our landfills and providing
them to people who can reuse them.
The ReUse People offers building owners, architects, contractors
and others a package of green services, including environmentally
sound demolition, materials salvage, and reuse and recycling
consulting. Their work extends the life of existing landfills,
benefits low income families who can't afford to buy new materials,
and helps building owners donate materials.
Over the last 10 years, the work of the ReUse People has helped
divert more than 200,000 tons of usable building materials away from
our landfills and given them new life.
To find out more about the services offered by The ReUse People,

July 2005 Community Crusade - Golden Gate Council
This July, KUSF's Community Crusade highlights the work of the
Golden Gate Council.
Founded in 1958, Golden Gate Council is a non-profit network of 10
affordable accommodations providing top-quality service, cleanliness
and security to guests in San Francisco, Sacramento and other scenic
Northern California locations. Hostelling began in 1909 to help young
people of limited means experience the countryside and cities of the world. Hostels are now at
the heart of international tourism for a wide age group.
The mission of Golden Gate Council is to help travelers,
especially the young, gain a greater understanding of the world and
its people through hostelling. Their vision is for guests to become
caring global citizens who are catalysts for intercultural exchange
and understanding stewards of the earth.
Golden Gate Council has a central services office in San
Francisco which provides support to the 10 hostels in Northern
California. The Council was formed by volunteers and has many
opportunities for people who want to lend their time. For more
information call 415-863-1444 or visit
