January 2005 Community Crusade - The Volunteer Center of San Francisco
KUSF's January Community Crusade encourages you to shake off your post-holiday blues by helping people
in need through the Volunteer Center of San Francisco.

Franciscois a private, nonprofit organization established back in 1946 to be a
centralized clearinghouse for a wide variety of volunteer needs and
opportunities.
Arial Through its Community
Service
Program, the Volunteer Center recruits over 25,000 volunteers every
year and refers them to more than 1,600 nonprofit agencies, schools
and government organizations in San Francisco and San Mateo Counties.
The CenterŐs Transitional Volunteer Program offers a wide range of
volunteer opportunities and vocational services for people with
mental, physical and environmental disabilities.

This January, KUSF's Community Crusade
highlights the important work of the Northern California Service
League.

Service
League is a non-profit agency that has worked inside the San Francisco
jails and California prison system for 50 years. The League's mission
is to reduce crime by helping offenders and ex-offenders become
responsible and productive citizens.

League acts as a channel for communication between inmates and their
attorneys, families, employers, and social service providers. They
also offer substance abuse counseling, tutoring, and life skills
workshops.
