August 2006 Community Crusade - Engineers Without Borders (EWB-USA)
This August, KUSF's Community Crusade celebrates the work of Engineers
Without Borders, USA. EWB-USA partners with developing communities
worldwide to improve their quality of life. Their activities range
from the construction of sustainable engineering projects for
developing communities to empowering these communities by enhancing
local, technical, managerial and entrepreneurial skills.
Next month, the San Francisco Professionals Chapter of Engineers
Without Borders holds its annual fundraiser, SFARI. The event will
raise donations for the India-Tsunami Project and the Tanzania Water
Supply Project, and will feature African and Indian music and dance,
hors d'oeuvre, a silent auction, and EWB-USA project displays. The
fundraiser takes place on Thursday, September 7th, from
7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
For tickets to SFARI or for further information on how you can help

August 2006 Community Crusade - KickStart
This August, KUSF's Community Crusade salutes the work of KickStart.
KickStart's mission is to help millions of people out of poverty. They
promote sustainable economic growth and employment creation in Kenya
and other countries by developing and promoting technologies that can
be used by dynamic entrepreneurs to establish and run profitable small
scale enterprises. They create new jobs and wealth, enabling the poor
to climb out of their poverty forever.
KickStart believes that self-motivated private entrepreneurs managing
small-scale enterprises are the most effective agents for developing
economies. KickStart has helped to start over 41,000 new businesses,
averaging 800 new enterprises per month. These businesses generate $41
million a year in new profits and wages on the African continent, while
lifting countless families out of poverty forever.
