April 2006 Community Crusade - Community Thrift Store

This April, KUSF's Community Crusade joins forces with the Community Thrift Store. The Community Thrift Store accepts donations of your unwanted goods, then resells those items at bargain basement prices, with all proceeds benefitting local charities and other nonprofit organizations.

At the Community Thrift Store, you can find everything from winter coats to out-of-print records and books, used furniture to kitchenware and toys. And when you make tax-deductible donations to the store, you can choose which charity will benefit from your gift. In April, KUSF joins the more than 200 charities affiliated with the store. Now, when you make a donation, you can choose KUSF as your beneficiary.

The Community Thrift Store is located at 623 Valencia Street at 17th and is open seven days a week. For information on business hours or making a donation, call 415-861-4910.

April 2006 Community Crusade - The Volunteer Center

This April, KUSF's Community Crusade celebrates the work of the Volunteer Center. The Volunteer Center assists individuals to both serve their communities and attain personal and professional growth through community involvement by providing a centralized source of volunteer information.

Through partnerships with nonprofit organizations, local government, schools and businesses, the Center acts as a catalyst for ensuring that every person has the opportunity to be a powerful, contributing community member. The Center annually recruits over 25, 000 volunteers and refers them to over 1600 nonprofit agencies, schools and government organizations throughout San Francisco and San Mateo Counties.

Individuals interested in using the resources of the Volunteer Center to find a rewarding opportunity of their own can call 415-982-8999, or visit the Center online at www.thevolunteercenter.net.
