April 2005 Community Crusade - Three Wise Monkeys Theatre Company
This April, KUSF's Community Crusade spotlights the work of Three Wise Monkeys Theatre Company.
Three Wise Monkeys is dedicated to supporting, promoting and producing the best works by San Francisco Bay Area writers, with an emphasis on youth, language, and theatrics. They are interested in plays written for the stage that concern younger generations and demonstrate a unique use of language and poetry. Although they aim to promote new work, they are keen to see new and unique adaptations and translations of older works.
Whatever the project, Three Wise Monkeys Theatre Company
wants to facilitate the production and recognition of great new theatre in the Bay, while fostering a collaborative and creative
environment in which both new voices and more experienced theatre
artists can thrive.
Stage play submissions are accepted from May 1 to July 30. Please visit their website at www.threewisemonkeys.org for submission guidelines and general monkey business.
April 2005 Community Crusade - Theatre Rhinoceros
This month. KUSF's Community Crusade highlights the work of
Theatre Rhinoceros.
Theatre Rhinoceros, the world's longest running professional queer
theatre, develops and produces works that enlighten, enrich, and
explore both the ordinary and extraordinary aspects of the queer
community.
Founded in 1977, Theatre Rhinoceros is named after the horned
animal, who is peace-loving until provoked. Theatre Rhinoceros offers
a five-play Mainstage season that features an eclectic mix of
theatrical styles and artistic diversity. From Shakespeare to Charles
Ludlam, from Jane Chambers to the Five Lesbian Brothers, Theatre
Rhinoceros provides a platform for theater by, for and about queers
and their experiences.
This month, Theatre Rhinoceros presents the West Coast
premiere of Beautiful Child by Nicky Silver and Casual Encounters by
Melissa Ososke.
