April 2004 Community Crusade--San Francisco Media Archive
This April, KUSF's Community Crusade supports the San Francisco Media
Archive. The San Francisco Media Archive is a non profit film
organization dedicated to the acquisition and preservation of
culturally significant films and related media. Their archive is
comprised of thousands of films, videotapes and digital media in all
genres, and includes important historical, educational, industrial and
propaganda films, as well as television commercials, movie trailers,
documentaries, and much more.
The San Francisco Media Archive offers many community programs.
Their internship programs mentor and instruct students in all aspects
of film archiving and preservation, video editing, digital media and
more. Their Project 20 Community Service Program allows people to
work off their parking tickets while learning and assisting with
important preservation projects. They also host monthly film
screenings at the archive and present rare avant garde, experimental,
ethnographic and music related films unavailable anywhere else. They
even offer free film to video transfers of your family home movies.
For more information about their programs or upcoming events, call
